Halvor Tjønn

Halvor Tjønn (b 1952, Norway) is a journalist, author and lecturer.

He has a cand.philol in history from the University of Oslo. He was a foreign correspondent in Stavanger Aftenblad from 1981 to 1986. He began working at Aftenposten in 1986 and, beginning in 1990, he worked as their correspondent in Moscow over different periods. In 2001 he began taking an interest in the Islamic countries, Islamic terror and extremism. In 2010 he was back at Aftenposten, writing mainly about issues related to Russia and Ukraine. Since 2014, he has worked as a lecturer and freelance journalist.

Tjønn has written many books, including one about the Viking kings Olav Trygvasson and Harald Hardråde. His two latest books are Russland blir til and Det russiske imperiet from 2015 and 2020 respectively.
