The world on Saturday

Like the rest of the world, Norway has withdrawn its forces from Afghanistan. We will now be resuming aid work. But do such efforts work? In Norsk bistandshistorie, Randi Rønning Balsvik, professor emerita in history, presents Norway’s involvement in such activities from its first development project in India 70 years ago. Is Norwegian or international aid what works, or is it voluntary and local efforts? Kai Eide has an extensive experience as a diplomat and as a politician, and was the UN Special Representative to Afghanistan from 2008–2010. Cecilie Hellestveit is a researcher at the Norwegian Academy of International Law with thorough knowledge of Afghanistan. Her most recent book Ulykkelige Arabia, verden etter Jemen ("Unhappy Arabia, the world after Yemen") was published in 2021.

Tomm Kristiansen, long-serving Africa correspondent for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), moderates their discussion.

The event will be in Norwegian.
