Cecilie Hellestveit

Lisbeth Michelsen

Cecilie Hellestveit (b 1972, Norway) is a lawyer, researcher at the Norwegian Academy of International Law and foreign policy commentator.

Her PhD thesis in international humanitarian law was on rules for combat during a civil war. In addition to her education in Bergen and Oslo, she has studied and worked in the Middle East, the USA, Russia, France and Germany.

Hellestveit has been a member of Norway’s Immigration Appeals Board, deputy head of the Norwegian Refugee Council and a member of the ethics committee for Norway’s government pension fund – global.

She was a regular commentator on international affairs in Morgenbladet and Dagens Næringsliv for several years and has written several books, including Syria. En stor krig i en liten verden. She is topical in 2021 with Ulykkelige Arabia – verden etter Jemen.
