In the Details

Palestinian Adania Shibli’s book Minor Detail (2020) begins in the summer of 1949 when Israeli soldiers shoot at a group of Bedouin in the Negev desert. Among the victims is a Palestinian teenager who is captured and later raped, killed and buried in the desert sand. Several decades later, a young woman in Ramallah stumbles on the incident in a newspaper and becomes determined to uncover the truth about this crime. Her decision has political consequences.

Her third novel and translated from Arabic, Minor Detail was nominated for the National Book Award for best translation in 2020, and long-listed for the International Booker Prize in 2021. The book is translated to Norwegian and is soon to be published.

Shibli will be in Bergen for a conversation with Daniel Medin, professor of literature at the American University of Paris.

The event will be in English.
