How to build fictional characters

How does a fictional character take shape? One method is to use models from life – but can you also build a persona via your own imagination, from ashes and dust, and create an individual who does not yet exist? Where do you go to find good models, how do you build a character?

Through her writing, Marit Eikemo is established as a sharp observer of contemporary life. Her latest book, Team Tuva, has attracted muchattention. The main character, Tuva, is only described through the eyes of people who encounter her.

Jan Kjærstad made his literary debut in 1980 and can look back on an extensive, varied and prize-winning output. His latest book, En tid for å leve, deals with the way 12 characters differ in their perception of a theatrical premier.
