The women who declared war

In many countries, we take it for granted that women and men have equal rights. We don’t reflect much on the fact that this is the outcome of a long struggle. But the mantra for feminists was long Action, not words. They declared war, organised themselves and fought. Some sacrificed their lives. And little by little, country by country, women were recognised as equal citizens.

One of Norway’s best-known non-fiction authors has created a graphic book on the history of feminism. Marta Breen presents extracts from Kvinner i kamp. 150 års kamp for frihet, likhet og søsterskap(Women at War. 150 Years of Struggle for Freedom, Equality and Sisterhood), illustrated by Jenny Jordahl.

The event will be repeated at 10.00 in Olav H. Hauge. Both events are for invited lower secondary school pupils only.

The lecture will be in English.
