Identity and populism
“Identity politics” changed in record time from a completely unknown term to one of the most widely used insults in political debate.
Social anthropologist Thomas Hylland Eriksen has long been at the forefront of Norway’s discussion on the relationship between identity, politics and populism. Danish author Carsten Jensen writes in his latest book, Kjellermennesker, on the growth of European populism. Is it possible to be a populist politician without playing on stereotypes of origin and identity?
Hylland Eriksen and Jensen will meet for a conversation moderated by journeyman painter and literary critic Jonas Bals.
The conversation will be in Norwegian/Danish.
