Thomas Hylland Eriksen

Thomas Hylland Eriksen (b 1962, Norway) is an author and professor of social anthropology at the University of Oslo.

He has worked for many years on identity politics, ethnicity, nationalism, globalisation and climate, and his publications include a large number of textbooks, popular science books, essays and polemics as well as two novels. Eriksen’s books have been translated into such languages as English, Czech, Swedish and Danish.

He is an active social commentator and has been awarded a number of prizes for communicating scientific research findings. His latest publication is Boomtown. Runaway Globalisation on the Queensland Coast (2018).
