Gunnstein Akselberg

Gunnstein Akselberg (b 1949, Norway) is a linguist and Professor Emeritus in Norwegian language at the University of Bergen.

He acquired his Cand. philol degree at the University of Bergen in 1979 and in 1995 gained his PHD with a thesis based on the sociolinguistic conditions in the Voss municipality. In 1997 he became a Professor in Norwegian language at the University of Bergen.

Akselberg has been the editor of the journals Namn og Nemne and Nordica Bergensia. In 2008, his book Ord og uttrykk frå Hordaland was published.

For many years, he has been responsible for the language column “Snakk med oss” on NRK Hordaland and since 2017 he has been the resident language expert for Linda Eide’s Språksjov on NRK.
