Grand Hotel Europa

Born in the Netherlands and resident in Italy, Ilja Leonard Pfeijffer is one of the best-known authors in his native country and has a varied and extensive body of work behind him. His latest novel, Grand Hotel Europa, has won a number of prizes and become a success in several countries.

The book is a grandiose exploration of an outdated European identity, one built on former greatness. People in Europe cultivate their past while mass tourism is destroying their cultural heritage and climate. Incapable of looking ahead, they dwell in the dust of old heroes.

Through the characters who live and work in the Grand Hotel Europa, Pfeijffer gets to say a lot about the times, the world, the mindset and the values of Europeans. With Inger Merete Hobbelstad, journalist, author and new cultural commentator for the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK), we dive in Europe’s depths.

The event will be in English.
