Dusting off a classic – Just Cato Frøchen: Gaa’t i Hundene. To naturhistorier

"Christiania bohemians" is an established concept in Norwegian cultural history. Less well-known are the "Bergen bohemians", with Just Cato Frøchen as their leading light. In the 19th century, he edited the scandalous humorous magazine Bergenseren before moving to Copenhagen. He made a living there as an editor and dramatist before being summarily expelled from Denmark for lèse majesté and breach of public decency.

Eirik Vassenden will dust off Frøchen’s first book, Gaa’t i Hundene. To naturhistorier, which appeared in 1887. Comprising two short stories, this volume was immediately banned because of its obscene content and later reissued in a censored version.
