Rafia Zakaria

Rafia Zakaria (Pakistan) is a Pakistani-American journalist, author, lawyer and activist. She is a permanent columnist in Dawn, Pakistan’s largest English-language newspaper, and has also written for The Nation, The Guardian, The New York Times and Al Jeezera. 

In 2009, Zakaria became the first Pakistani-American woman to become director of Amnesty International in the USA. Her breakthrough as an author came in 2015 with The Upstairs Wife: An Intimate History of Pakistan, and she has written two further books. The latest of these, Against White Feminism (2021), criticises conventional western feminist thinking.
