Guri Hjeltnes

Guri Hjeltnes (b 1953, Norway) is a historian, journalist and author who heads Norway’s Centre for Studies of the Holocaust and Religious Minorities. With a PhD in history from the University of Oslo, she has previously been a professor at the BI Norwegian Business School.

Hjeltnes is particularly interested in Norwegian occupation history and has published several books. These include Hver fredag foran porten (1984, with Wanda Heger) and Barn under krigen (2000, with Berit Nøkleby).

She won Norway’s 1998 Language Prize for her “outstanding use of Norwegian in non-fiction” in the third and fourth volumes of Handelsflåten i krig 1939-1945 ­– Sjømann: lang vakt (1995) and Krigsseiler: krig, hjemkomst og oppgjør (1997).
