Gunnar Sørbø

Gunnar Sørbø (b 1948, Norway) is a social anthropologist and former director of the Chr Michelsen Institute (CMI) in Bergen. He has served on the board of the Research Council of Norway, the Rafto Foundation and several international research organisations.

He visited the Sudan for the first time as a student more than 50 years ago, and has since lived, researched and taught there for several periods. He has also been involved in measures aimed at achieving peace and progress in a conflict-riven country. Sørbø is on the board of LitFestBergen.
