Dag O. Hessen

Dag O Hessen (f 1956, Norway) is a professor of biology at the University of Oslo. He heads the Centre for Biogeochemistry in the Anthropocene, and is the author of a number of popular science books on evolution, biology and the environment for both children and adults.

His most recent works are Tett på insekter og småkryp (with Jannicke Wiik-Nielsen and Ole Mathismoen) in 2020, and Verden på Vippepunktet – Hvor ille kan det bli?, which received the Brage Prize in the non-fiction class in 2020.

Hessen has won a number of other awards, including the Riksmål Prize (2008), the Biodiversity Prize (2010), the Academic Prize (2010), Fritt Ord’s Honorary Award (2010), the Humanist Prize (2013) and the Bonnevie Prize (2014). I 2020, he received the Brage Award of Honour.
