As a volunteer at LitFestBergen, you’ll be helping to create an unforgettable festival experience for the audience, the authors, our partners – and yourself. We welcome enterprising people who want to make a difference during festival week.
Choose the roles where you can make the best contribution.
Each volunteer will be assigned three shifts of between 3-6 hrs long, one of which will be as a stand in/runner.
Please note that you will have to be available sometime during festival hours which are between 09.00 and 23.00 Wednesday to Saturday (Sunday 10.00 - 17.00). This year the festival will be held February 4 to 8, 2026.
As a thanks for your efforts, you’ll receive the following benefits:
- a festival pass – access to all events with availability
- light refreshments during your shift
- a social gathering before and after the festival
- 10 % discount on books purchased at Boksalongen
- the one-of-a-kind festival t-shirt
- And once done, a testimonial sent to you on request
Our Volunteer Positions:
Please choose at least three roles that you are interested in and note that you will be allocated positions according to your availability and our need.
Audience Host
Are you a social butterfly who would enjoy listening to the discussions while on duty? Do you have a smartphone and are able to use the ticketco app (training is provided)?
As an audience host, you will welcome people at the entrance, check tickets, show people to their seats and answer their questions about facilities and the programme schedule. You’ll help to prepare the stage for events when necessary and take an audience count.
Guest Host
Are you a good communicator, multilingual, familiar with Bergen and somebody who enjoys being a host? As a guest host, you will meet our guests at the airport, provide information and guide them to transport into central Bergen. You will also welcome guests in the festival reception at the hotel, communicate information and answer questions. You might also be required to assist with participants transfers to the House of Literature or on tours. (this task will have hours outside festival times as well)
Festival Promoter
As a festival promoter, we would like your assistance with the distribution of posters, catalogues and festival bookmarks at the end of 2025 and just before the festival.
We are also looking for volunteers that can distribute catalogues in Oslo, and flyers in Trondheim, Stavanger, Kristiansand, Tromsø, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Berlin and London.
Festival Office Host
Are you organised, service minded, detail oriented and technologically savvy?
At the festival office, you will meet and greet the audience and participants and provide them with general information about the festival's events.
You will also sell tickets or help people to buy tickets through the digital platform ticketco.
You will also sell merchandise, give out festival folders and set up and take down the office - depending on your shift.
Green Room Host
Are you a service-orientated person who is warm, friendly and enjoys creating a welcoming environment? As the Green Room is also a working environment for participants, you would also be required to maintain a quiet and non-intrusive atmosphere. Your duties entail keeping the room stocked and clean while also assisting participants to their designated room venues 10 minutes before their events.
Stand in/ Runner: Position for all volunteers
All volunteers will be expected to be available for a shift where they are a runner/ stand-in for volunteers that are perhaps ill or otherwise requiring assistance, running little errands and relieving volunteers in the Office and Green Room, so that they can grab some food.
Volunteer Coordinator
Are you a people-orientated person, with great organisation skills and are willing to
oversee the volunteer programme during the festival.
Previous experience at LitFestBergen would be preferred. If you are interested, please contact me directly at maxine@litfestbergen.no.
Mandatory Training Session: As a way of helping you be comfortable in your role, there will be a mandatory training session for all volunteers a week before the festival. Date to be announced later on.
We will also have a preliminary Meet and Greet for those that are signed up and those that are interested on Wednesday October 29, 2025 at the Bergen House of Literature at 18.00.
