Christian Kracht
Christian Kracht (b. 1966, Switzerland) is a Swiss journalist, author and screenwriter.
Kracht studied film and literature in the United States. After completing his studies, he worked as a journalist and editor. Even after establishing himself as an author, he has remained active as a journalist, including as Asia correspondent for Der Spiegel and newspaper columnist for Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and Welt am Sonntag. From 2004 to 2006 he was editor of the literary magazine Der Freund.
His writing deals with key themes of popular culture and consumerism, and his novels often contain disillusioned conclusions. His work has been subject to some critical controversy, though his books have been translated into more than 30 languages.
His latest novel, Eurotrash, was long-listed for the Booker Prize in 2025.
