Losing yourself
The Sami are Norway’s indigenous inhabitants, but have nevertheless been deprived of their language and culture. Sami children were made to attend boarding schools where they learnt Norwegian and were forbidden to speak their native language. In her novel Lappjævel, Kathrine Nedrejord, herself a Sami, tells the story of a boy forced into Norwegian culture who ultimately feels at home neither among the Sami nor as a Norwegian. The author will be interviewed by pupils.
Topical book: Lappjævel (Aschehoug, 2020)
This event will be in Norwegian.
The event will be repeated at 12.15 in Olav H. Hauge.
