Cross-generation conversation III: Can everyone say what they like? (digital)

The stricter infection control measures adopted by the Norwegian authorities for the Bergen region from 7-14 February mean that LitFestBergen must cancel all physical events. All ticket purchases for physical events will be refunded. This event will be streamed to YouTube.

What is actually free speech? The Norwegian government has appointed a new commission on freedom of expression, 20 years after its predecessor. At the same time, Norwegian PEN and the Fritt Ord foundation have established a Norwegian Youth Forum for Freedom of Expression to investigate what prevents young people expressing themselves in Norway today.

Who speaks up at school, at work, in the public arena? What role does religion play in what is said? How big a problem are “fake news” and hate speech on social media? Kjersti Løken Stavrum and Nancy Herz, who chair the commission and the forum respectively, will be coming to LitFestBergen to debate with Mohamed Abdi on conditions for free expression in Norway today.

This event will be in Norwegian.
