Sven Egil Omdal

Sven Egil Omdal (b 1953, Norway) is an author and journalist.

He has had a long career in journalism with Stavanger Aftenblad, Adresseavisen and Vårt Land, and has also served as news, culture and multimedia editor at the first of these. He has chaired the Oslo Journalist Club, the Norwegian Union of Journalists and the Norwegian Press Complaints Commission.

Omdal has written a number of non-fiction books, including Paris. En veiviser, Noe innen media (with Halvor Hegtun), Gestapokjelleren, Borgerlønn. Ideen som endrer spillet (with Ingeborg Eliassen) – nominated for the Brage Prize – and most recently Byen som formet Norge. Den overraskende historien om alt vi kan takke Stavanger for.

He was the first person outside Oslo to receive the Gold Pen award from the Society for the Preservation of the Dano-Norwegian Language.
