Monika Fagerholm

Monika Fagerholm (b 1961, Finland) is resident at Ekenäs in Finland, and is described as one of the most prominent Fenno-Swedish authors of our time.

Her international breakthrough came in 1994 with Vidunderlige kvinner ved vann, and all three of her subsequent novels were nominated for the Nordic Council Literature Prize. She won Sweden’s August Prize for Den amerikanske jenta (2016), and received the Swedish Academy’s Nordic Prize in 2016.

Fagerholm was awarded the Nordic Council Literature Prize in October 2019 for the novel Vem dödade Bambi?. The jury citation noted that her language “swings ahead, at times crackling with energy, and at others melancholically beseeching”.
