Heir of the Cursed
Beldina Odenyo (b 1990, Kenya) is a vocalist, guitarist, poet and writer creating work between the fields of music and theatre. Her work attempts to explore the differences and kinship between her dual Kenyan and Scottish heritage through words, music and visual art. Under her other-worldly moniker Heir of the Cursed, Odenyo is utterly transfixing with her intricate guitar work and soulful, dreamy vocals traversing somewhere across the realms of jazz, blues and folk. Odenyo has performed headline slots in a variety of contexts, including Celtic Connections, Solas Festival, Doune The Rabbit Hole Festival, Tron Theatre and Just Start Here for the National Theatre of Scotland. She has also supported a range of other musicians, such as Milk Carton Kids, RM Hubbert, Jessica Lea Mayfield, Tiny Ruins, Outlines, Roddy Woomble and Kathryn Joseph. Spanning a wide-range of theatrical and performance-based events, Odenyo has worked with artists and companies such as the National Theatre of Scotland, Edinburgh International Book Festival and Glasgow Women's Library. In 2018, she was appointed one of the National Theatre of Scotland’s Starter Artists. Beldina lives in Paisley.
