What happened to mother?

Vulnerable children and fragile families have been a recurrent theme in Tiril Broch Aakre’s literary output. In the autumn of 2019, she published Mødre og døtre, an autobiographical novel about what occurred when her own mother committed suicide in 2016.

In this conversation with fellow author Selma Lønning Aarø, Aakre talks about the double deprivation of having, and then losing, a mentally ill mother and about how suicide can be discussed in daily life and literature.
