What is home?
What does it mean to feel at home somewhere? Journalist and former NRK presenter Rima Iraki, who has roots in Palestine, has written and reflected on what it is like to live between several realities – the one that shapes you and the one you create in the country you live in. Author, journalist and commentator in Klassekampen Yohan Shanmugaratnam, with a background from Sri Lanka and Japan, has explored in his books how identity, racism and community affect the feeling of belonging.
In this conversation, Iraki and Shanmugaratnam meet to explore what “home” really means: is it a place, a language, a community – or something you carry with you? How do encounters with gazes, expectations and social structures influence who we are allowed to be? And what happens when external expectations make accommodating multiple places and identities feel like a betrayal, either of others or of one's own history?
The conversation will be held in Norwegian.
