Treacherous Literary Characters: Victor Frankenstein
The winner of the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2025, Faroese poet Vónbjørt Vang, takes a closer look at Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, in which betrayal is a central theme, manifested in Victor Frankenstein’s abandonment of his responsibility towards his creation by leaving it behind. Society also betrays, as it does not accept the monster. The monster lives in isolation, loneliness and despair, which drives both Victor and his creation towards their ultimate fate.
The lecture will be held in Scandinavian.
