The Librarians (documentary film)
Never before have so many books been targeted for removal from US school libraries. In The Librarians, we meet some of the librarians who are facing threats, harassment, and new laws that seek to criminalise the work they do. In an increasingly polarised United States, where both the freedom to read and freedom of expression are under attack, the film provides a powerful insight into the individuals who form the frontline of democracy. The film, which premiered at Sundance Film Festival in January 2025, was directed and produced by Oscar nominee Kim Snyder, and Sarah Jessica Parker is also involved in its production. The film will be introduced by Andreas Hatlevik, manager at Norwegian PEN.
The film lasts 1 hour and 32 minutes and is followed by a discussion about banned books in Norway and the USA.
In collaboration with Norwegian PEN. The film is in English.
