Norwegian Slam Poetry Championship

LitFestBergen is the official organizer of the Norwegian Slam Poetry Championship Finals. Semifinals have been held around the country over the course of the autumn and winter, and on 6 February the finalists from Telemark, Trondheim, Vestlandet, Oslo and Innlandet will come together at the House of Literature in Bergen to compete for the trophy for the sixth time. Henrikke Meidell, a slam poet and previous winner of the competition, will be your host for the evening.

Slam poetry is a direct and spontaneous poetic experience at the intersection of poetry performance, spoken word, standup, and rap. The first slam reading was arranged at a jazz club in Chicago in 1984 by builder and poet Marc Smith, who wanted to make poetry more accessible and inclusive.

Connecting with the audience and the atmosphere in the room are key elements – and are just as important as how the words are presented.
