Eve, the First Betrayer?
The story of Eve, the woman created by God who picked the forbidden fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, is important in Christianity, Judaism and Islam [AK1] – but with one key difference: the Fall.
As a result of Eve’s actions, God expels Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden. But it is only in Christianity that this betrayal of God leads to humans being born sinful. In Islam and Judaism, God forgives the first two human beings.
How does this story define questions of betrayal, guilt and shame in culture, society and literature? Author Pedro Carmona-Alvarez, historian Anne Katrine Bang, and editor and critic Preben Jordal meet for a conversation about Eve in the three main monotheistic religions and how this origin story is conveyed in culture and literature. Was Eve humanity’s first betrayer?
The event will be held in Norwegian.
