DN Interview: In Her Father’s Shadow
She was determined never to write about her father – but here’s a book about him nevertheless. In Det har skjedd verre ting i utlandet [Worse Things Have Happened Abroad], Marte Michelet writes with love, humour and incisiveness about growing up as the daughter of Jon Michelet – the author, editor, communist, and folk hero who always took up a lot of space, both publicly and privately.
Through her father’s life and legacy, Michelet explores what it means to be the child of someone who belongs to everyone – and how to find your voice and place in the shadow of a narrative that is bigger than your own. “What would Jon Michelet do?” she asks herself – and sets out to “live” it.
The conversation will be moderated by Simen Ekern, journalist for Dagens Næringsliv.
The conversation will be held in Norwegian.
