Can Norwegians not be bothered to build the country any more?

Are Norwegians pompous, unhealthy and lazy? Economist Martin Bech Holte has attracted attention with his book criticising the Norwegian economic model, in which he claims that the oil fund, which provides a quarter of the state budget, has become a trap rather than a blessing. Norway is a country with an inefficient public sector and far too easy access to sick pay, according to Bech Holte. He is now in the spotlight with his book Alternativt statsbudsjett (Alternative State Budget), which he himself describes as ‘alternative with a capital A’.

The country that became too rich has now been translated into English. How has Bech Holte's criticism been received in the UK?

Martin Bech Holte meets Frederick Studemann, literary editor at the Financial Times, for a conversation about which society is best.

In collaboration with the Financial Times.
The event will be held in English.
