Vigdis Hjorth
Vigdis Hjorth (b. 1959, Norway) is an award-winning Norwegian author whose work is characterized both by the quality of her novels and the prolificacy of her output. Her books have been translated into numerous languages.
Though Hjorth’s work has been praised, its intimate and ground-breaking themes, which deal with familial relationships and heredity, are also controversial. She has won the Norwegian Critics Prize for Literature three times for her novels Gjentakelsen [Repetition] in 2023, Arv og miljø [Will and Testament] in 2016 and Leve posthornet! [Long Live the Post Horn] in 2012. She also won the same award for her children’s book Jørgen + Anne er sant [Totally True Love] in 1984.
Hjorth is an active participant in the Norwegian cultural scene, and some of her work has been adapted to film.
