Joy Williams

Joy Williams (b. 1944, USA) is an American novelist, short-story writer and essayist best known for her short fiction.
Key themes in her work include environmental catastrophe, belief, and the strange and unsettling aspects of human life. Her novel The Quick and the Dead was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.
Williams has taught creative writing at institutions such as the University of Houston, the University of Florida, and the University of Iowa.
Her many awards include the Rea Award for the Short Story, the Strauss Living Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. She was honoured with the Library of Congress Prize for American Fiction in 2021.
