John Olav Nilsen (b. 1982, Norway) is a Norwegian vocalist, musician, poet, copywriter, songwriter and producer.
He has had a great impact on a generation of music lovers in Norway with his poetic street pop and stylish expression. Although he began with the band John Olav Nilsen og Gjengen, which disbanded in 2013, he has since continued as John Olav Nilsen og Nordsjøen.
Nilsen won Spellemannprisen, Norway’s most prestigious music award, for his debut album For sant til å være godt (2009).
A theatre play based on his lyrics called Sånne som oss [People Like Us], written by Frode Grytten, was staged in 2014 and 2015. The play has also been published in book form by Forlaget Oktober.
