James Lamont
James Lamont (b. 1968, UK) is currently director of strategic partnerships at the Financial Times. Previously, he was the FT’s managing editor from 2012, overseeing editorial strategic direction, newsroom digital transformation and global talent management.
Prior to that, Lamont was the FT’s South Asia bureau chief in New Delhi and world news editor in London. He joined the newspaper in 2001 as Southern Africa bureau chief.
Before the FT, he edited Business Report, South Africa’s largest financial daily, and was deputy editor of the Middle East Times in Cairo. He also reported on oil and gas for OPEC. Lamont began his journalism career in UK consumer media.
In May 2026, he will take over as CEO of NHST, the holding company of Norwegian financial daily Dagens Næringsliv.
