Norwegian Championship in Slam

LitFestBergen is the official organiser of the Norwegian Championship Finals in Slam Poetry. During the course of the autumn and winter there have been semifinals around the country, and on the 8th of February the finalists from Trondheim, Vestlandet, Oslo and Innlandet will come together at the House of Literature in Bergen for the fifth time to compete for the trophy. Henrikke Meidell , a Slam poet herself and winner of a previous competition, will be the host for the evening.

Slam Poetry is a direct and spontaneous poetic experience in the meeting point between poetry reading, spoken word, standup and rap. The first slam reading was arranged at a jazz club in Chicago in 1984 by builder and poet Marc Smith, who wanted to make poetry more accessible and inclusive. 

Contact with the audience and the atmosphere in the room are alpha and omega, and as important as how the words are presented.
