Imprisoned by Literature

At LitFestBergen, author Eivind Riise Hauge will meet a former inmate of Bergen Prison to discuss the novel Halvard Borges forbrytelser (Halvard Borge's crimes) and the character Halvard ‘Rorgen’ Borge.

In his last two novels, Eivind Riise Hauge addresses issues related to guilt, class and what kind of people can be behind criminal offences. Riise Hauge also reflects on what kind of legal protection serial criminals and the so-called repeat offenders actually have, especially those who do not have the power of the word.

What perspective does a former convict have on Rorgen and the themes in Riise Hauge's novels? Is the character of Rorgen a credible jailbird?

The conversation will be in Norwegian.
