Film Screening: El Equipo

Documentary about forensic anthropology, crime and human rights

In 1984, American forensic anthropologist Clyde Snow was hired by Argentina's newly elected democratic government to set up a team to document the military dictatorship's crimes against the country's citizens. The assignment was only supposed to take a couple of weeks, but instead became the start of a revolution in forensic anthropology and human rights - an academic community that today is among the foremost in the world. "El Equipo" is a fascinating and insightful film about forensic anthropology and the crucial role it plays in criminal cases, national reconciliation processes and the fight for human rights.

LitFestBergen is showing the film in connection with the conversation “Å grave opp sanninga" (Digging up the Truth) with Filipe Celesia, who has written a book about the Argentine legal anthropology project. The film will be shown in collaboration with the film festivals BIFF and Cine Latino. During BIFF 2023, El Equipo received ‘Gullugla’, a documentary film award for outstanding research dissemination.

The festival director for Cine Latino, Håkon Tveit, will give a short introduction ahead of the viewing.

The film in Spanish with English subtitles.
