Envy and Self-Deception on Stage: Agnes Ravatn’s "Gjestene"

In Agnes Ravatn’s critically acclaimed novel Gjestene, we meet Karin and her husband, who have been given the opportunity to stay in a luxurious cabin by the Oslo Fjord. The stunning cabin fuels Karin’s feelings of inferiority, and when the couple meets a famous author duo in the neighboring cabin, she fabricates a more successful life and higher social status.

Now, Gjestene is about to premiere at Den Nationale Scene. What do author Agnes Ravatn and theater director Morten Joachim think about the urge to present oneself as better than one really is? And is it through cabin life that Norway’s social divides become most apparent? Ravatn and Joachim will join LitFestBergen project manager Erlend Liisberg for a conversation.

In collaboration with Den Nationale Scene.

The conversation will be in Norwegian.
