Digging up the Truth
During the dictatorship in Argentina in the 1970s and 80s, tens of thousands of people disappeared. They were never found, never identified and never given a grave. In the book Døden er å bli glemt (Death is to be forgotten, translated to Norwegian from Spanish by Signe Prøis), Argentinian journalist Felipe Celesia tells the story of a group of Argentine forensic anthropologists and the method they developed to identify bodies and solve crimes against human rights, first in Argentina and then in a number of countries around the world.
Celesia meets filmmaker and writer Mirko Stopar for a conversation about the field of forensic anthropology, what the work of this group has meant for relatives around the world - and how the world should react to the current president of Argentina, Javier Milei, who claims that he ‘does not believe in’ the disappearances.
The conversation is in Spanish with simultaneous translation into Norwegian.
