My language is my bird
When the Taliban retook Afghanistan in August 2021, one of the numerous freedoms that was curtailed was freedom of expression, and the plight of journalists and writers was to have their voices totally silenced. What kind of emotions does this silencing arouse?
My Pen is the Wing of a Bird is a new collection of short stories from female Afghan writers, providing a window into life in a country ravaged by war.
The session begins with a reading of the text An imprint on the Wall by Masoma Kawsary translated into Norwegian by Johanne Fronth-Nygren. With actor Nasrin Khusrawi. Directed by Linda Gathu.
The Afghan writer Masoma Kawsary, author of one of the short stories from the collection, meets poet and translator Parwana Fayyaz about fiction and reality. Kristin Skare Orgeret will chair the conversation.
