Valzhyna Mort

Valzhyna Mort (b 1981, Belarus) is a poet and translator.

She has published three poetry collections – Factory of Tears (2008), Collected Body (2011) and, mostly recently, Music for the Dead and Resurrected (2020) for which she won the Inter­national Griffin Poetry Prize. The New York Times called it one of the best poetry col­lec­tions of 2020.

Mort works at Cornell University. She has received the Gulf Coast Prize for Translation and the National Endowment for the Arts grant for translation for her work on Polina Barskova’s book of selected poems Air Raid (2021). Mort translates between English, Belarusian, Russian, Ukrainian and Polish.
