City walk: Torborg Nedreaas (postponed until 2022)
Join a stroll around Bergen in the footsteps of author Torborg Nedreaas.
Through her three books about Herdis, Trylleglasset (1950), Musikk fra en blå brønn (1960) and Ved neste nymåne (1971), Nedreaas (1906–87) proved a highly distinctive chronicler of the city. We follow the heroine from childhood wandering in the rain on Møhlenpris through visits to various parts of the city and to her grandparents “in the country”, as the local dialect has it, at Marken and Sandviken. Nedreaas describes TB, alcoholism, violence and assault and presents brutal social divisions. The reader witnesses the big city fire of 1916 and human upturns and downturns, but also sees the world through a magic mirror and hears enticing music from the well.
Historian Jo Gjerstad and literary scholar Grethe Fatima Syéd – who also chairs the Torborg Nedreaas Association – will guide participants through key parts of the author’s Bergen.
This event will be in Norwegian.
In collaboration with the Torborg Nedreaas Association.
