Tomas Espedal

Tomas Espedal (b 1961, Norway) made his debut as an author in 1988. He has published novels and short-story collections, where he often experiments with crossing genre boundaries. In recent works, Espedal draws closely on his own life and experience while simultaneously exploring the relationship between the novel and such genres as essays, letters, diaries, autobiographies and travel writing. His book Tramp: Or the Art of Living a Wild and Poetic Life was nominated for the Nordic Council’s Literature Prize, and he was nominated again for Against Art and Bergeners. Espedal received the Critics’ Award and was nominated for the International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in 2013. In 2011, he was awarded the Brage Prize for Against Nature. His latest book is Elsken (2018). His books have been published in 24 countries.
