Jon Fosse

Jon Fosse (b 1959, Norway) is an author, dramatist, lyricist and translator. Raised in Strandebarn, he has lived much of his adult life in Bergen. His plays have been translated into more than 50 languages and are constantly being performed internationally.

As a state scholarship holder, Fosse has lived since 2011 in the government’s honorary Grotten residence. He was awarded the Nordic Council Literature Prize in 2015 for Triologien and the Brage Prize in 2021 for Eit nytt namn, the last book in his Septologien novel cycle. Fosse has also translated and reinterpreted several classic works.
