Ashur Etwebi

Ashur Etwebi (b 1952, Libya) is one of Libya’s leading poets.

Etwebi has published twelve poetry collections, which have been translated into various languages. He is trained as a doctor, and played an important role in the development of Libyan health care. He has been an advocate for women’s rights and a secular democracy in Libya. After the fall of Muammar al-Gaddafi he organized the first international poetry festival in Tripoli, and in 2014 he organized the ambulating festival Cities and Poems in Sahara and the Nafusah Mountains.

Etwebi came to Trondheim as an ICORN-artist in 2015, and is represented in the anthology Å kysse en ørken, å kysse en myr. 13 fribyforfattere (2019).
