Yann Queffélec

Yann Queffélec (b 1949, France) is an author. He grew up in Paris in a family of authors and artists with Breton roots, and worked for several years as a sailing instructor before making his literary debut in 1981.

As early as 1985, Queffélec received the prestigious Prix Goncourt for his novel Les Noces barbares (The Cruel Embrace). He has published 23 novels, also writes essays and biographies, and ranks as one of France’s best known authors.

He published Dictionnaire amoureux de la mer in 2018, which attracted much attention in his homeland for using 150 key words as the starting point for literary, historical and philosophical reflections on people, the sea and love.
