Helene Uri

Helene Uri (b 1964, Norway) is an author and has a PhD in linguistics. She worked at the University of Oslo for 12 years before starting to write, and made her literary debut in 2001 with the novel Dyp rød.

In addition to fiction, Uri has published a number of textbooks on linguistics and has been translated/is being translated to such languages as Danish, Swedish, German, English, French, Spanish and Japanese.

Her 2018 publication Hvem sa hva? poses the question of whether women and men speak different languages. Are women more indirect in the way they speak? Are there separate “female words” and “male words”? Uri was awarded the Brage Prize for the best non-fiction book in 2018 for Hvem sa hva?.
